Located in the Norwegian pavilion of the World Showcase in Epcot, Askershus presents Norwegian fare in a style that combines buffet with table service.

We were greeted by these lovely Norwegians

who introduced us to the cold buffet and explained the various Norwegian "tastes"  There was certainly ALOT of variety!  That brown one is caramelized/smoked goat cheese.

This section has the Norwegian specialty, cold scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.

Then you have a more "typical" salad

and a selection of smoked meats

And, finally...  an assortment of herring in sauces.

It was explained to us that hot entrees would be brought to us (as many as we wanted; >) from a menu selection.

We were showed our table...

I just HAD to take a picture of the ceiling!  The ambiance really reminds me of a medieval castle.

And away we went!  This first plate shows a selection from the cold buffet of everything that isn't smoked or a type of herring

This plate is much more adventuresome

The hot selections came in small enough portions that there really was room for another one.
Braised Lamb and Cabbage

Kjottkaker (meatballs with beets, gherkins, and onions in them[:-])

Seared Atlantic Salmon

Pasta Askershus

Dessert wasn't included in the $13.99 buffet price (and none of them were sugar free) but they sure looked yummy!

We found the combined buffet/table service to work very well and enjoyed sampling a taste of Norway.  OLP reviewers say "Interesting food for a great price!"

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
12/18/2015 by Tonya

Let's chat about Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot located in Norway. I ate there 5 years ago and really liked it. I couldn't wait to go back... it only took 5 years. Ha!

Well, this time around it was disappointing. I didn't care for the beef at all. It tasted like pot roast, not a piece of meat for the money charged.

The princesses were a small pick and they stopped by for a matter of secs and rushed off.

Disappointed for the price.

The food for breakfast was okay. They serve some things at the table and some at the buffet. My kids liked to see the princesses, but told me the food was not their favorite. You have an opportunity to get a photo made with a princess, which is a nice touch.
Princesses, princesses and more princesses!

Akershus is the place for you if you love princesses, the place is swimming in princesses!  Akershus is no longer a buffet, now it is a character breakfast 3 meals a day with lots of princesses.  We did lunch here and the food was ok, nothing really special.   The meal begins with a Norwegian style appetizer buffet -- translation, lots of smoked fishes and cheese.  For my entree I got the chicken sandwich which was good, Ahnalira got the roast chicken which was pretty tasty.  For dessert we had the Norwegian special sugar free chocolate mousse, which was really the star of the meal for me.
