More Than Four Theme Parks!

When you think of Walt Disney World in Florida, do you think of four theme parks only? You may be surprised to learn that the resort offers much, much more! Whether you enjoy shopping, dining, swimming, boating, fishing, or various sports activities, you’ll find that WDW offers a little something for everyone in the family!

For example, in addition to the four Disney theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, and Disney's MGM Studios, there are also two other fabulous water parks: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Both parks offer fun for every age! Recently, Disney made this annoucement:
Changes to Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach Operating Hours
The Walt Disney World® Resort has revised the operating calendars for Disney's Blizzard Beach and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Parks. For a brief time beginning April 27, 2003, Blizzard Beach will operate Sunday through Thursday and Typhoon Lagoon will operate Wednesday through Saturday.

Did you know that you can go on fishing excursions during your WDW vacations? They have two-hour Largemouth Bass catch-and-release programs available from three different marinas at WDW! The program includes fishing equipment and refreshments. They’re offered daily at 7am for $210 per boat, 10am for $195, or 1:30pm for $180. You can have up to five guests per boat. Reservations can be made 90 days in advance. Kids’ (ages 6-12).  Fishing excursions are also available at the Yacht/Beach Club Resorts and the BoardWalk Inn and Villas. Interested in renting a boat? Disney rents pontoon boats, canopy boats, 14’ sailboats, and 14’ Catamarans at various marinas througout the resort. Want something small, but fast? How about renting a Mercury Water Mouse? Parent and child can enjoy this fun mini power boat for 30 minutes at a cost of $20.

If you want to try something more adventurous, check out waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, or parasailing at the Contemporary or Caribbean Beach Resorts! The parasailing is $75 for one person, $115 for tandem. Canoeing is available at the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Each canoe can hold up to three people and costs only $6.50 for 30 minutes or $11 for one hour! Also at Fort Wilderness, the Tri-Circle-D Ranch offers a variety of recreational activities for the entire family. For those nine years and older, you can go on trail riders for $23 per person. For the younger crowd, pony rides and a petting farm are available from 10am – 5pm daily. The petting farm is free; the cost of the pony ride is $3 per person. Each evening (7pm & 9pm), you can catch a relaxing one-hour hayride. Adults are $6, children are $4.

Need something a little less active? How does a fireworks or moonlight cruise sound? You can enjoy a Pontoon boat fireworks cruise or a more romantic 45-foot Sea Ray yacht moonlight cruise! These reservations can be hard to obtain because they are very popular among resort guests, but the travel pixies at Our Laughing Place are happy to help clients secure these sought after reservations!

Walt Disney World also offers two miniature golf courses, Winter Summerland and Fantasia Gardens, as well as SIX magnificent full-scale golf courses. Resort guests can make advance reservations for tee times. Disney offers full-service pro-shops, too.

Play tennis? You can choose from clay court or hard courts at WDW. Clay courts are available at the Contemporary Resort and Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Hard courts can be found at the BoardWalk Inn and Villas, Old Key West, Yacht/Beach Clubs and Villas. All courts are lighted for nighttime play.

Bike paths and Mongoose bicycle rentals are available to rent at the BoardWalk Inn and Villas, Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, Fort Wilderness, Old Key West, Port Orleans, and Wilderness Lodge! The rental at most resorts is approximately $6 per hour or $14 per day.

Don’t forget, Disney also has the World of Sports Complex offering a variety of sporting events, such as baseball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, or even lacrosse!
